Community Helps Burrton Family Struck With Illness Save Email Print

Samantha and Michael Baumann and their two young girls from Burrton are going through more grief and hardship than any couple should ever have to endure.

They are both battling debilitating diseases. Samantha has been fighting progressive multiple sclerosis for 10 years. Michael just recently was diagnosed with stage-4 esophageal cancer, which has progressed to his pancreas.

The Baumann's illnesses prohibit both of them from working, so friends decided they would organize an auction to raise money for the family with so much need.

Hundreds of items... new and old, big and small, were auctioned off to hundreds of generous community members Saturday morning in Burrton.

Auction organizers said they were hoping to raise $1,000 for the family -- maybe $2,000 if they were lucky. At the end of the day after that last dollar was counted, they say they couldn't believe their eyes. They raised $13,978. They say it's a miracle and something the Baumann's certainly need.

If you would like to make a donation to the family, you can send it to the Dillons Employee Credit Union in Hutchinson.

My prayers are with your family! I too have MS and know how hard it is, and I can only imagine how hard it is for your husband with his cancer. I wish you all the best.
