A Kansas woman accused of trying to hire someone to murder her husband could avoid going to trial. Prosecutors reportedly are ready to offer Dorothy Clinkingbeard a plea deal, which we're told is her husbands idea.

Clinkingbeard waived her right to a preliminary hearing on Thursday. That will allow her to enter into a plea agreement with the state. She was charged last month with one count of solicitation to commit premeditated first degree murder.

"The parties have reached a negotiation whereby the defendant will enter a plea to an amended charge of solicitation to commit second degree murder," explained Morton County Attorney Eric Witcher in court Thursday.

Witcher says the plea was offered to Clinkingbeard at the urging of her husband Robert, whom the KBI and Morton County authorities say was her intended target. He says taking the plea will save Clinkingbeard about a year of jail time.

District Judge Roseanna Volden explained to Clinkingbeard that she still will face 38-172 months in prison is she's convicted of the lesser charge. She could also be fined up to $300,000.

Clinkingbeard's arraignment is scheduled for April 8th.

Must be easy to write comments about things that you know absolutely nothing about. After you meet and visit with the people involved then maybe some of you can make an informed opinion, because that is exactly what you are doing voicing YOUR OWN opinion. Those of you who think you know all about it must be very close to these people. Leave their business to them and mind your own.

this is to the idiots that think that he is an abusive man. did u ever think that this is stuff that she was telling everybody just to cover her butt. I don't feel a bit sorry for her; she put herself is this position and no one twisted her arm to commit a crime. I don't agree that she should get a lesser charge for attempting to kill someone. If the media would pay attention how do they figure that he wants it lessoned. He might have a lot of unanswered questions and I think that he has the right to know. If anyone of you have lost a loved one due to murder you might understand or have some common sense of what is he trying to deal with. I have no symathy to anyone that wants/does kill some.

He agreed because he was sick of the MEDIA!! and didn't want anymore attention. He is a very private man, he is NOT abusive!!!!!!!

He must have been a mean husband and feels guilty about it enough to let her off the hook.

I agree it is crap, you can always plead to lesser charges. Just like child molesters

If they allow it that is bunk. That is what is wrong with the system now days....When someone does something like this....they plead to a lesser charge. Watch out after she gets out of prison....Hopefully he will divorce her while she is there. AND NOT TAKE HER BACK!
