Sheriff Morton County Sheriff Justin Holliday says his department is investigating a murder-for-hire case involving a woman from Elkhart.

Dorothy L. Clinkingbeard, 53, was arrested before the act was carried out.

The official charge is criminal solicitation to commit premeditated murder.

Holliday says the intended victim was Clinkingbeard's husband - he didn't know anything about the planned crime.

Clinkingbeard will make her first court appearance on Friday.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is also working the case.
