Another gaming entity has thrown its hat into the ring for a casino in Sumner County. Penn National Gaming filed an application earlier today - the deadline was noon.
It's the second application PNG has filed with the Kansas Lottery Commission. Penn National previously submitted an application to manage a casino in Cherokee County.
The lottery's director of gaming, Keith Kocher, confirmed that an application for Sumner County was received Wednesday. The
commission will take no final action until after the Dec. 28 deadline for the south-central gambling zone.
Governor Kathleen Sebelius signed an expanding gambling law in
April, allowing for four casinos and slot machines at horse and dog
tracks.
Four applications were expected - two for a casino in Wellington and two near Mulvane.
