Need A Ride? Uber Arrives In Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita residents now have another option to get from point A to point B.

If you haven't heard of Uber, it's a company that uses a mobile app to connect passengers with drivers for hire. Basically, you use the app to request a ride, and the nearest registered Uber driver to your GPS location will pick you up and take you to your destination.

Payment also happens via the app, with the credit card you have on file.

On Thursday, the taxi-alternative service launched in Wichita and in 23 other cities around the country. The Uber network now reaches 205 cities across 45 countries worldwide.

On the flip-side, the service has seen its share of criticism from other businesses such as taxi and limo companies. Local and state governments have also tried to keep up the technology, and many have worked to pass bills or ordinances in order to provide oversight on potential drivers.
