TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - State revenue fell short of estimates for February, but it's still ahead for the fiscal year.
The Kansas Revenue Department said Thursday that February receipts were about $30 million below expectations. Revenue officials attribute most of it to the federal government delaying various tax filing deadlines.
However, state officials point out that Kansas has collected $65 million more than anticipated so far this fiscal year.
“We anticipated this result from the delayed federal refunds last month, the good news is state revenue receipts overall continue to show signs of growth,” Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan said. “Kansas has collected $204 million more for the fiscal year to date that it had during at the same time last year.”
The figures will be closely watched as lawmakers prepare to debate the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
