TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The two major party candidates for Kansas Governor released debate schedules Friday.
But the schedules don't match up with each other.
Both Sam Brownback and Paul Davis have agreed to a meeting September 6th at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. It will be broadcast statewide on AM 580 WIBW Radio. They also both committed to a debate October 21st at the Kansas Association of Broadcasters annual conference in Wichita. It will be made available to all KAB members who wish to broadcast it.
Brownback's campaign says the GOP incumbent has accepted two other debate invitations. One is a televised debate with KWCH-TV in Wichita on a date to be decided. The other is at a September 19th luncheon with the Johnson County Public Policy Council.
The campaign for Democratic challenger Davis also has agreed to a televised debate, but it's with KSN-TV in Wichita.
Libertarian candide Keen Umbehr has asked to be included in debates. He specifically argued his 9 percent showing in a recent poll met the threshhold for the WIBW Radio State Fair debate. However, he did not meet the station's requirements for campaign fundraising amounts. He accepted an alternate offer from the station for an extended interview slot on another day.
