TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A legislative committee wants to block the sale of a state parking lot.
A Department of Administration spokesperson tells 13 News the Joint Committee on State Building Construction recommends the State Finance Council reject all bids for the area at SW 10th and Topeka Boulevard. The state received a high bid of $2.5 million for it.
Department officials say the lot is surplus property and state workers have plenty of available parking.
But committee member Rep. Mark Hutton, R-Wichita, said his concerns center more on the property being essentially a part of the Capitol complex. He says it is too integral a location to not have some control over its future development.
The State Finance Committee will make the final decision on selling.
