TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)-- Plans for a new fire station on Topeka's west side are on hold.

The station was to be built on 6th street, just west of Fairlawn, on land donated by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, who bought the former Menninger campus.

Construction was to begin last September but in an email this week, City Manager Jim Colson said the city does not currently have resources to provide apparatus and firefighters for the building.

Colsonsaid city officials are studying how they might allocate resources within the department to staff and equip the station before moving forward.
