TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - People who plan to vote in the November general election should make sure they are registered.
Tuesday, Oct. 16, is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 contests.
People can fill out the registration application at their local elections office or at official registration sites, like the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.
Online registration is available through the Kansas Secretary of State's web site with a valid Kansas drivers license.

The regular hours for the Shawnee County Election Office are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are also many permanent voter registration locations in the county including many locations for Capital Federal Savings, CoreFirst Bank & Trust and Fidelity State Bank during business hours. There are also some locations with late hours: The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library and the Movie Magic Store at 510 NW Broad St. are open until 9:00 p.m.

If you have questions concerning your registration status in Shawnee County, please call the office at 266-0285.
Commissioner Andrew Howell also announced that starting Wednesday his office will extend its office hours to be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Shawnee County voters wishing to vote in advance in the Election Office. The Election Office is not open on Saturdays or Sundays. Advance voting in person in the Election Office will end on Monday November 5th at noon.
Shawnee County voters also have the option of requesting an advanced ballot be mailed to them. Those wishing to vote in advance in this manner may either download an application from the county web site at www.snco.us/election/ or call the Election Office at (785) 266-0285 and request an application be mailed to them. Applications may be returned by mail or faxed to the Election Office at (785) 266-0299. The last day for the Election Office to mail ballots to the voter is Friday, November 2nd.
All voted mailed advanced ballots must be returned to the Election Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 6th.
Commissioner Howell reminds voters that showing photo identification is necessary to vote this year. Applications for Advanced Ballots must include a copy of the photo identification or include the number of the applicant’s Kansas driver’s license or Kansas nondriver’s identification card.
