Topeka City Council Approves Temporary Easements Along 21st

Topeka city council members took steps Tuesday night to clear the path for expansion of a major street.

The city plans to widen southwest 21st between Wanamaker and Urish to five lanes. To do that, city manager Jim Colson asked for temporary public easements.

He told council members the three properties with which the city had yet to reach agreements would only be temporarily affected by the construction.

Council members then passed the ordinance by unanimous vote.

There was also a unanimous vote from the council to approve 10 million dollars in bonds for a project at Brewster Place, which includes renovation and construction of the Brewster campus...

Council members voted 7-0 with councilman Richard Harmon abstaining, because he served on a board connected to brewster place.

Council members also voted unanimously to extend the city of Topeka's franchise agreement contract with American Medical Response through December 31st of this year.
