TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The City of Topeka needs a new leader.
On Monday, city leaders announced they are accepting applications to replace John Campos II, who resigned last Friday. The City Council will then pick the person who will fill the District 2 seat until an election is held next April.
Applications are due Friday, June 2, 2014 and must be submitted to the City Clerk, 215 7th Street, Room 166, Topeka, KS 66603.
The winner of the April 2015 vote will then serve a four-year term.
According to the city, all applicants must be at least 18 years old, an American citizen, eligible to vote in Topeka, and must live in District No. 2 when the application is submitted and for the remainder of the term.
An application fee of $50.00 - payable to the city - or a petition signed by 50 eligible voters who live in District 2.
Council members are scheduled to interview each applicant after the deadline, unless another date is determined. More information is available by clicking on the "Vacancy Procedures" document.
