The 2014 Governors Race Kicks Off

TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)-- The 2014 Governors race started for real Thursday when Rep. Paul Davis (D-Lawrence) and Jill Docking officially filed for office.

“Kansas has a long tradition of moderate, commonsense leadership – both Republicans and Democrats – solving the problems we face," said Kansas House Minority Leader.

"We share a commitment to our kids and their schools and an understanding that businesses have diverse needs to grow and create jobs. It’s time for Kansas to once again focus on the right priorities and restore our commitment to our future,” he said.

"Like so many Kansans, we’re profoundly troubled by the direction our state’s been heading over the past three years," he continued.

Governor Brownback welcomed his latest opponent entering the election with the following statement.

He is an Obama-style Democrat. Kansans will recognize the sharp contrast between my policies as a Reagan Republican, reducing taxes and increasing family income, and those of a liberal Democrat who supports increased taxes and federal intrusion including support for Obamacare. Kansas is building on its heritage and leading the way to economic prosperity and opportunity."

Before he would face Davis, Brownback and his running mate, Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer will have to get past his primary opponent Jennifer Winn, who is running with Ethan McCord.

Democrats Paul Davis and Jill Docking are currently unopposed .

The Libertarian Party candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor are Keen A. Umbehr and Joshua J. Umbehr
