TOPEKA, Kan. (AP/WIBW) _ Former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline has had his law license indefinitely suspended by the Kansas Supreme Court over allegations of ethical misconduct during his investigation of abortion providers.

Friday's decision comes after repeated disputes between Kline and his critics over his tactics over alleged violations of state law.

A state disciplinary panel contends Kline repeatedly misled or allowed subordinates to mislead others _ including a grand jury _ to further his investigations.

As attorney general, Kline pursued misdemeanor criminal charges against Dr. George Tiller over late-term abortions performed by his Wichita clinic. He pursued a similar investigation of a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Overland Park while Johnson County District Attorney.

The Court did reject some claims, including that Kline misled a state agency about the investigation.

By law, Kline must wait three years before applying for reinstatement.

Kline was Kansas attorney general from 2003 to 2007 and Johnson County district attorney in 2007 and 2008. He is now a visiting professor at Liberty University in Virginia.

Kline's attorney Tom Condit told 13 News they will look at the ruling further before deciding their next court of action but "we're not just going to accept this."

Condit says the case contained several due process violations. He says it relied on looking at every single writing and filing from Kline and his staff members over a six-year period and noting any inconsistency.

"If any inconsistency was found, it was said to be a deliberate lie," Condit said. "They’ve cherry-picked things from this, that and the other and decided they have a lier and need to throw him out of the profession. I could do that to anybody else."
