TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- A Kansas House budget committee is nearing the end of testimony on a proposal to increase school funding to satisfy a state Supreme Court ruling on the funding of public schools.

Members of the Appropriations Committee heard Tuesday from supporters of a House GOP leadership plan. The committee is hoping to finish work on the bill later in the day and send it to the full House for debate.

A Senate committee was working on its own proposal Tuesday. Both aim to increase funding by up to $129 million in the next school year to comply with the court's March 7 ruling.

The decision came in a 2010 lawsuit by parents and school districts claiming that the Kansas school funding system was unconstitutional.
