TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Kansas Dept. of Transportation (KDOT) looks within to find the new head of its Aviation Dept. On Thursday, the agency announced its current interim Director of the KDOT Division of Aviation, Jesse Romo, will assume the role permanently.
A longtime pilot, Rome initially took over the director's role back in April after previously serving as its Deputy Director.
Romo first joined KDOT at the beginning of 2006 as its Assistant Office Chief in the Office of Management and Budget, the agency said. Before that he worked for the Burbank airport.
As Aviation Director, he will work with the Federal Aviation Administration and aviation stakeholders across the state and oversee KDOT's aviation programs, which include the Kansas Airport Improvement Program, the Kansas Airport Inspection Program, and the Kansas Airport Development Program.
