Governor Announces Appointments to Commissions and Boards

TOPEKA – Kansas Governor Sam Brownback announced today numerous appointments to boards and commissions.

“I appreciate the dedication and energy these Kansans bring to each board and commission,” Governor Brownback said. “It is with their help that we continue to make Kansas great.”

Kansas State Historic Sites Board of Review:
The Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review is a group of 11 professionals from various fields that meets quarterly to review and recommend nominations to the National Register of Historic Places and the Register of Historic Kansas Places, and award preservation planning and rehabilitation grants.

Sharron Hamilton, Salina, is being appointed to a three year term. Sharron is originally from Lincoln and has a degree in business. She has held many different positions at the Saline County Courthouse, owned her own business and worked as an elementary school nurse and secretary.

Joseph Johnson, Wichita, is being appointed to a three year term. He received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois and pursued a graduate degree in Urban and Public Affairs at Wichita State University. Joe is a registered Architect in Kansas, Illinois, New Mexico, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Nevada.

Sam Passer, Overland Park, is being appointed to a three year term. He received his bachelor’s degree from Drake University and a graduate degree from University of Missouri, Kansas City. Sam is currently the Vice President of Program Services at CommunityAmerica Credit Union.

Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns:
The Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns envisions that all people with disabilities are entitled to be equal citizens and equal partners in Kansas society. They are a catalyst for change in government for all people with disabilities.

Grady Landrum, Wichita, is being re-appointed to a three year term. He is currently the Director of Disability Services at Wichita State University. Grady has been active in disability rights advocacy at many levels since 1973.

Patrick Terick, Augusta, is being appointed to a three year term. He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from Bethany College in Lindsborg. Pat is currently the Director of Governmental Activities for the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas, Inc. and serves as the Associate Executive Director for United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas, Inc.

Kansas Advisory Council on Aging:
The Kansas Advisory Council on Aging serves as the advisory committee as required by the federal Older Americans Act, and have the duty to review and comment upon various activities of KDADS.

Virginia Hooper, Gem, is being appointed to her first three year term. Virginia has served as a guardian in the state guardianship program since 2001. She also represents her Gem, Kansas as a Silver Haired Legislator.

Kansas Pet Animal Advisory Board:
The Kansas Pet Animal Advisory Board reviews the status of the Kansas Pet Animal Act and makes recommendations on changes to the act as well as rules and regulations for the act. The Governor appoints from several different areas in the animal industry.

Leanne Trabuc, Colony, is being appointed to a three year term. Leanne is currently the Board Clerk of Crest USD 479.

North-Central Kansas Library System Board:
The North-Central Library System board has the power to operate the libraries within the system, this includes the ability to contract for services that will help the library system operate.

Sheila Biggs, Abilene, is being appointed to a four year term. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas. Sheila has served as a Dickinson County Commissioner since 2005.

Information Network of Kansas:
The Information Network of Kansas is to provide electronic access for members of the public to public information of state agencies. INK also is tasked with expanding the amount and kind of public information provided, thereby increasing the utility of public information provided.

Terry Holdren, Manhattan, is being appointed to a three year term. He received a bachelor of arts degree in History and Political Science from Bethany College and his Juris Doctor from Washburn University. Terry is currently the general counsel for the Kansas Farm Bureau.
