Gov. Brownback has asked for SBA disaster declaration for Cherokee and adjacent counties hit by the EF2 tornado April 27th.
Joint damage assessments by the state of Kansas, SBA and FEMA were made earlier this week and it was noted that damages will likely qualify the communities for SBA help.
"If the SBA assistance is approved, these low-interest long-term SBA loans will certainly help homeowners, renters and businesses as they work to rebuild," Brownback said.
In order to qualify for SBA loan, a certain amount of structural loss not covered by insurance must happen.
The Governor's declaration activates disaster response and recovery portions of the Kansas Response Plan.
