TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County has a new elections commissioner.
Secretary of State Kris Kobach announced Monday his appointment of Andrew Howell to the position.
Howell is a former state representative, who's also headed up a contracting business and served as a police officer in Fort Scott.
“I am confident that Andrew will be an excellent Election Commissioner for Shawnee County and will ensure that elections in Shawnee County are fair, smoothly run and secure,” Kobach said.
“I am pleased to have been selected and honored to serve in this position of trust,” Howell said. “My experience as a member of the Shawnee County business community, my law enforcement experience and my years in the Kansas legislature will assist me in carrying out the significant responsibilities of this office.”
He succeeds Elizabeth Ensley Deiter, who was appointed a magistrate judge.
Howell's term expires in 2014.
