Commission Meets To Redistrict Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -Some Topekans can expect to switch City Council districts in the months ahead.

The City Council's Redistricting Commission held its first meeting Thursday night.

The city is required to reconsider council district boundaries every two years. Ensuring each reflects about one ninth of the official city population.

A number of districts need adjustments, members like Larry Dobler say the process takes time. "Obviously its gonna take a couple of meetings. I imagine tonight we will get organized and figure everything out with the population. I don't think we'll have any issues with that. I expect this to go pretty smoothly.

Members voted Bob Beatty to chair the commission, and they have until September 30th to make their recommendation to the City Council.
