Kansas Congressman Joins Call for AG's Impeachment

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Kansas Congressman Dennis Moore is among
several Democrats seeking an inquiry into whether to impeach
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Moore is among seven House members co-sponsoring the measure
whose primary sponsor is Jay Inslee of Washington State, a former
prosecutor.

The measure is being introduced today, as Congress and White
House aides work to expand the government's surveillance authority
without jeopardizing citizens' rights. The Bush administration also sought to soothe a sore spot in its relationship with lawmakers over a related matter -- whether Gonzales misled a Senate panel about internal dissent over the surveillance program. Lawmakers from both parties have questioned Gonzales' truthfulness.

The White House calls the measure the "partisan attack of the
day."
