TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas Transportation Secretary Deb Miller says she's relieved that Congress is close to passing a federal highway bill.
But Miller also says Congress needs a long-term solution to prevent future problems with the federal highway trust fund.
The Senate passed the bill Wednesday night. The House was expected to approve it and send it to President Bush. The measure shifts $8 billion from general revenues into the trust fund.
Federal officials had said the trust fund would run out of money by the end of the month.
Miller said last week that the problem might prevent the state from going ahead with some planned projects.
