TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Starting Aug. 29, Kansans will be able to read evaluations of some of their judges online.
It's part of an effort by a state commission to give voters information about appellate court judges and district court judges whose names are on the ballot in the fall.
Members of the Kansas Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and
many district judges are appointed. Later, voters decide whether
they'll be retained on the bench.
Two years ago, the Legislature created the Commission on Judicial Performance to oversee reviews of those judges' performances.
Commission spokesman Michael Grimaldi said Monday that while informing voters is one goal, the commission believes the
evaluations will improve the judiciary.
