WASHINGTON (AP) _ Kansas Senator Pat Roberts is donating to charity nearly $20,000 in campaign contributions he has received from Alaska Senator Ted Stevens.
Stevens, a Republican, was indicted Tuesday, July 29 on seven felony counts of false statements.
Roberts campaign spokeswoman Molly Haase said the senator told his campaign to donate to Kansas charities the money he received from Stevens since 2001. Republican Roberts is up for re-election this fall.
Campaign officials for Democratic rival Jim Slattery called on Roberts to give away the money from Stevens and the Alaska senator's political action committee.
At least three other GOP senators also are giving away money they got from Stevens.
