WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Child advocacy groups are calling for the resignation of the leader of the Kansas child welfare agency.
Don Jordan is secretary of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. He has been criticized after he was secretly recorded accusing prosecutors of bullying his caseworkers into including information they did not believe in sworn affidavits.
He backed off those statements Thursday, saying in a newspaper column that he did not know of any case in which social workers committed perjury or misrepresented facts in court documents used to remove children from their families.
Friday, three advocacy groups called a news conference to step up
the public pressure on Jordan. They are upset with him for backing
away from his earlier statements.
