RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ John McCain has lifted the media blackout on his private fundraisers.
He let reporters into three he held Monday, including a $10,000-per-ticket reception in Richmond, Virginia. There were also evening fundraisers in Washington and McLean, Virginia, which is an
affluent Washington suburb.
For months, McCain had kept such affairs off-limits to reporters, with little or no explanation.
At the Richmond affair, McCain repeated his offer to Barack Obama for a town-hall meeting. McCain would like to hold it next week in New York. He's proposed a total of 10 get-togethers, although details are still being worked out with the Obama campaign.
McCain's Richmond reception plus a $1,000-a-ticket luncheon raised $800,000 for his campaign and the GOP.
