TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Topeka city officials have backed off plans to change the way they enforce an ordinance dealing with temporary
signs for garage sales.

City spokesman David Bevens said officials this week considered changing practices, including hiring three part-time employees to
work Thursday through Sunday enforcing sign regulations. But Bevens said officials decided to discard the idea because the legal department concluded the idea amounted to selective enforcement.

The proposal had angered many Topeka residents who conduct garage sales and shop at them.
