Immigration Dead for the Year?

For the second time, the Kansas House has blocked a compromise immigration bill, and it appears that no further action will be taken on the issue this year. House negotiator Arlen Siegfried says the failed effort
essentially ends any chance to get the legislation passed this
year.

Last month, a compromise bill failed because it didn't include criminal penalties for businesses that illegally treat workers as independent contractors instead of employees. Dealing with illegal immigration has been high on the agenda of many legislators. They say they are responding to constituents' concerns about increased illegal immigrants in Kansas and the federal government's failure to deal with the issue.
