WASHINGTON (AP) _ Sen. Pat Roberts is reporting nearly $3 million in the bank for his latest re-election bid.

The Kansas Republican says he pulled in more than $500,000 over the first three months of the year.

His leading Democratic challenger, former Congressman Jim Slattery, raised $250,000 in just ten days since entering the race last month.

Nearly half of Roberts' haul this quarter came in last month at a Kansas fundraiser hosted by First Lady Laura Bush.

The numbers are being reported this week to the Federal Election
Commission.
