TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansans could legally own automatic weapons
under legislation awaiting action by a House Federal and State
The bill also would make more residents eligible for a concealed weapons permit.
For years, federally licensed firearm dealers could sell silencers and automatic weapons to law enforcement officials. But an attorney general's opinion in December said the law didn't allow such sales.
Representative L. Candy Ruff says her bill allows dealers to make such sales and gives individuals the right to purchase an automatic weapon. The committee is expected to vote next week.
