TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Senate adopts a resolution asking Congress and the president to block an air force tanker contract with a French company.
The resolution is a response to the Air Force's decision to award a $35 billion contract to Airbus instead of Chicago-based Boeing Co. It was adopted on a unanimous voice vote Friday. All 40 senators sponsored it.
Kansas officials and members of the state's delegation are angry about the decision. They fear it could cost the Wichita area 1,000 jobs.
The resolution says Boeing's tankers would burn less fuel and produce less pollution than the Airbus model. It also says American tax dollars should not be used to fund economic development in Europe.
