Rebounding from a weak money-raising effort in January, Senator Hillary Clinton reported raising $35 million during the month of February. A campaign official told reporters Thursday that marked the biggest fundraising period of her campaign. Clinton more than doubled her January collections, after raising just $14 million in the first month of 2008.
Barack Obama raised $36 million in January. Obama spokesman Bill Burton wouldn't disclose the senator's fundraising total, but said "we've raised considerably more than that."
That would make February an astonishing money-raising month for the Democratic candidates. At the current rate, the challengers could shatter the records for presidential candidates in a primary fight.
