WASHINGTON (AP) _ Republican and Democratic presidential hopefuls are carving up the country on Super Tuesday, with each one apparently staking enough victories to feel like they've survived
what's essentially a national primary.
All five major candidates are waiting to see how they've done in
California, which has the most delegates up for grabs on both sides.
Republican John McCain has claimed victories in New York, New
Jersey, Connecticut Delaware, Illinois and Oklahoma.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has a win in his home
state, along with Utah, North Dakota, Minnesota and Montana. Former
Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has wins in the South in Georgia,
Arkansas, Alabama, West Virginia and Tennessee.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Rodham Clinton has won New York
as well as Massachusetts, New Jersey, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Arkansas.
Obama has wins in Connecticut, Georgia, Alabama, Delaware, Utah
and his home state of Illinois. He has also prevailed in North Dakota, Minnesota and Kansas.
