Governor Kathleen Sebelius endorsed a health care plan Thursday morning, which she says will help control cost and improve the quality of care for Kansans.
The plan was introduced by the Kansas Health Policy Authority late last year. The group was formed in 2005 to create a plan that improves the quality, availability and affordability of the health care system.
Officials say advocates, stakeholders and consumers came together to help craft the comprehensive plan. Sebelius says she hopes the legislature will accept the plan as it is presented.
Among the proposals is an increase is the cigarette tax. Sebelius says she continues to support that idea as a way to discourage smoking, which contributes to higher health care costs.
