ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) - An Asheville High School student is recovering after school officials said he was attacked and injured by a naked stranger Thursday morning while walking to school.

Asheville City Schools' spokesperson Charlie Glazener said the 10th-grade student had parked his car and was just across the street from school when he was assaulted and struck by the man.

Asheville Police said the suspect, Timothy Rogers, 21, was being treated for a stab wound in an unrelated incident when he left the trauma unit without consent at nearby Mission Hospital.

A short time later a 911 caller reported seeing, "A young gentleman running down the street naked, looks like he's been assaulted." Several others called 911 to report seeing the man near the school.

While near the school, police said Rogers attacked a student about 8:06 a.m., which school officials said is the peak arrival time for students and staff.

Police told FOX Carolina that Rogers was naked when he attacked and assaulted the teenage male, who had to be treated for his injuries.

Two staff members were the first to arrive and intervene, and one of them was also injured by the man, according to police.

The student was taken to Mission Hospital with injuries while the man was apprehended by the school resource officer, who was the next to arrive, Glazener said.

Everything happened fairly quickly and because the man was immediately apprehended, Glazener said the school was not placed on lockdown but parents were notified of what happened.

Rogers was also taken back to the hospital, according to police. A spokesperson for the Asheville Police Dept. said that Rogers will be served with warrants for the incident once he is released.
