TAMPA Fla (CBS) Hundreds of manatees looking for warmer waters are swimming to warm water springs in are a Tampa Bay-area national wildlife refuge.
Officials have blocked off the the canal leading to the Three Sisters Springs at the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge to protect the roughly 300 manatees.
On Tuesday, officials instituted an emergency closure of the springs to activities such as swimming and kayaking so that the manatees would not be disturbed.
Manatees seek out warm waters when temperatures drop.
