(CBS)-- Thanks to many factors - from online dating sites to modern medicine - more senior citizens today have active sex lives. They are also more likely to get sexually transmitted diseases.

Now, a website, Safersex4seniors.org, is trying to get their attention with an eye-brow raising public service announcement.

At first glance, the PSA seems like something taken straight from the pages the Kama Sutra. A rapid succession of fully-clothed men and women are seen posing in more than two dozen sexual positions. Eventually, it reveals a startling statistic and message for sexually active seniors.

STD rates rise among elderly

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over a ten year period from 2006 to 2010, reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases in people ages 55 and up rose dramatically. A 2010 study from Massachusetts General Hospital found men over 50 are six times less likely to use a condom than men in their 20s.

The increase of STDs is attributed, in part, to a combination of post-menopausal women who are no longer at risk of getting pregnant and older men who are taking advantage of the expanding erectile dysfunction drug market.
