(CNN) – Ron Paul's Republican presidential campaign says they raised more than $2.6 million last month, bringing to nearly $10.4 million the amount they took in during the first quarter of this year.

The campaign of the longtime congressman from Texas, who's making his second straight bid for the GOP presidential nomination and third overall run for the White House, says they have nearly $1.8 million cash on hand and no debt.

"Total contributions of $10.4 million in Q1, including details such as $1.8 million cash on hand and more money bomb cash in the pipeline, amounts to excellent news as these resources fuel our effective delegate-attainment strategy. These ample funds also will help us compete even harder in Texas, where Ron Paul is the only Texan, veteran, and authentic conservative running," Paul’s national campaign chairman Jesse Benton said in a statement.

Texas holds its primary on May 29.

While former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania last week suspended his White House run, Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich continue their long-shot bids for the Republican presidential nomination.

Regardless, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is now generally considered the all-but-certain presumptive GOP nominee.
