(CBS/AP)-- A 20-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were caught on video allegedly stabbing and punching a Kansas City bus driver Saturday night.

According to CBS affiliate KCTV, the two allegedly attacked the driver after he tried to get them off the bus for cursing and refusing to pay their fare.

The 52-year-old bus driver, whose name isn't being revealed, is reportedly recovering from his injuries after being released from the hospital.

Lewis W. Perkins, 20, of Kansas City, and the unidentified juvenile were charged Friday with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. The charges against the 14-year-old were reportedly filed in juvenile court.

According to court documents obtained, Perkins' mother urged the two to turn themselves in to authorities after she recognized them from surveillance video aired by local news outlets.

Since the teen is a juvenile, authorities are not saying whether the two suspects are related.

KCTV reports police say the other passengers that were on the bus did their part to help with the investigation. One passenger reportedly gave police cell phone photos of the incident which helped in identifying the suspects. Also during the attack, one woman on board picked up the driver's cell hpone and called 911.

This is reportedly the third time this year that an Area Transportation Authority bus driver has been the target of violence.
