CBS-The medical examiner who oversaw the examination of the victims of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School said all were shot multiple times by rifle.
Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner Dr. H. Wayne Carver II told a news conference Saturday that the deaths are classified as homicides.
The victims had between 3 to 11 wounds each.
"I've been at this for a third of a century, my sensibilities may not be the average man's, but this is probably the worst I have ever seen, the worst that I know any of my colleagues have seen," Dr. Carver said.
He said he and his team worked through the night to examine and identify the victims, praising them for their work, including one examiner who, he believed, was on her first day on the job.
He said officials presented photographs to families to help them ID their children, who were all ages 6 or 7.
All of the victims' bodies have been released to the families or to funeral homes.
Dr. Carver said he will examine the suspected gunman, Adam Lanza, and his mother, Nancy Lanza, Sunday morning.
Also at this afternoon's press briefing, State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance said there was no report of any altercation involving Adam Lanza at the school in the days prior to the shootings.
