TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) The Topeka Police Department, FBI, and Shawnee County District Attorney's office have teamed up to seek stiffer charges in the Hudson Liquor store robbery and murder which happened this past Christmans Eve.
Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor announced today that Matthew Myers will be charged federally with the murder of Matthew Hill.
With federal charges, Myers, who would have only faced a maximum of a 20 year state sentence, could face up to life in a federal prison without parole and the option of the death penalty.
U.S. Attorney Barry grissom had a stern warning for criminals using hand guns, "Unlike state law, particularly if you are a convicted felon we will remove you for ten, fifteen, twenty and in some cases even life if you use a handgun in commission of any crime. Hopefully this makes people think twice before involving themselves in criminal activity of this nature."
Matthew myers is being charged in three counts: One count of robbery, one count of using a firearm in a crime of violence and one count of murder in the commission of a crime of violence.
