NEW YORK (CBS NEWS)-- A passenger on board a flight from Hong Kong to Newark, N.J., claimed he had poisoned everyone on board.

The disruptive passenger who made the claims has been restrained, reports CBS Station WCBS, and is believed to be emotionally disturbed.

WCBS reports the scare in the air involves United Airlines Flight 116.

Sources tell CBS News that the passenger was yelling about poisoned food. Flight attendants and other volunteer passengers surrounded him.

The disturbance has been going on for about 4 or more hours, sources tell CBS News.

In a statement, United Airlines said that "a passenger became disruptive on board United flight 116," the crew "followed procedures," and that the flight was continuing as scheduled.

The decision was made by authorities not to divert to Canada or another airport in the Northeastern U.S. The flight was being expedited into Newark Liberty, where it landed shortly before 2:00 p.m.

The plane was met by Port Authority Police and the FBI. Several minutes after entering the plane, a man was escorted out, hands bound, to a waiting EMS truck.

An FBI spokesman says there is no indication that any passengers had actually been poisoned.
