(CBS)-- Actor Lee Thompson Young has died. He was 29.

Police discovered Young's body inside his Los Angeles home early Monday morning.

Police confirmed Young's death to Entertainment Tonight.

A dispatch had initially been sent to Young's house on a welfare check after he failed to show up for work on the set of "Rizzoli & Isles." Young had played Det. Barry Frost on the TNT buddy-cop series since 2010. The series, which stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, was just renewed by TNT.

Authorities discovered Young's body soon after upon entering the home and he was pronounced dead on the scene. It is believed he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Although there was no official cause of death, Young's manager, Paul Baruch, said the actor "tragically took his own life."

"Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed. We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends as this very difficult time," Baruch said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

The actor was probably best known for his starring role as Jett Jackson on the Disney Channel series, "The Famous Jett Jackson," which originally aired from 1998-2001.

In addition, Young portrayed running-back Chris Comer in the 2004 hit football movie, "Friday Night Lights." He also previously had reccurring roles on shows, including "Scrubs" and "Smallville."
