TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__Emporia is another step closer to the addition of a national memorial to fallen educators.
Members of the National Teachers Hall of Fame Board of Trustees accepted a $15,000 dollar check from corporate partners at Security Benefit of Topeka.
The monument will be a ten by ten foot framed book monument made of black granite and inscribed with the names, dates, and locations of educators who have given their lives while teaching students. Organizers of the check presentation say there are currently 52 names that will go on the monument. It will be erected on the Emporia State University campus near Merchant Street.
The Memorial to Fallen Educators also received $25,000 from Pearson Education of New York.
