(CBS/AP)--- The Boy Scouts of America has won a stay of a court order that would have required them to turn over more than two decades of files the group kept on sexual abuse complaints.

A San Antonio judge had ordered BSA to produce "ineligible volunteer" files dating from 1985 to 2011. The documents are being sought by a former Scout who is suing BSA.

The 4th Texas Court of Appeals on Thursday granted the Scouts' request to stay that ruling.

The Scout's attorneys say these files could show whether BSA kept its pledge to change how it handles complaints. Previously released files from 1959 to 1985 show BSA shielded scoutmasters and others who allegedly molested children.

A BSA spokesman says the group keeps files confidential to encourage reporting of abuse.
