TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -One Blackhawk Helicopter and nine soldiers from the Kansas National Guard in Topeka, arrived home safely this morning after battling wildfires alongside firefighters in Colorado.
The guardsmen used a 660 gallon Bambi Bucket underneath the helicopter to drop water on the flames while directed by ground personel.
For some of the guardsmen it was their first fire mission, Captain Jacqueline Miller was eager to answer the call.
Captain Miller said "Its a rush, you have to pay attention out there...there's alot of radios out there talking to you and its all fast moving and you have to be on your toes."
The guardsmen were free to return home once it was declared that more than fifty percent of the fire was contained in the Colorado wildfires.
