Sprint's New 4G Phone Will Push Video Calling

OVERLAND PARK -- Sprint wants to make video calls a selling point of the new, faster data network that it's spending billions to build, along with co-investors.

Sprint Nextel Corp. on Tuesday announced that it is launching the first phone this summer that will be able to use the new Clear wireless broadband network. It's live in 27 cities and offers faster data speeds for laptops than current cellular broadband networks, but the network doesn't yet work with phones.

To capitalize on the network, Sprint will be releasing a large, iPhone-style smart phone called the Evo 4G that will have a camera facing the user, a convenient setup for video calls.
