BAGHDAD (AP) _ A U.S. soldier has been killed after his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in northwestern Baghdad.

In Sadr City, militia fighters ambushed a U.S. convoy of heavily armored vehicles, firing rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns from alleys and rooftops. As the troops pulled back, a spokesman says one vehicle was hit with two roadside bombs, and six soldiers were wounded.

Clashes between Shiite militants and U.S. and Iraqi forces continue in the capital. The director of Iraq's Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs was killed by a roadside bomb.
