JERUSALEM - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has told a newspaper that Israel and Syria have been exchanging messages to clarify expectations of any future peace treaty.
Yediot Ahronot, an Israeli daily, said Thursday that Olmert didn't disclose the content of the messages or provide other details about the contacts. The paper quotes Olmert as saying, "They know what we want from them, and I know full well what they want from us."
Peace talks between the two sides broke down in 2000. Syria wasn't satisfied with Israel's offer to return the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war.
