STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Stanford baseball coach Mark Marquess earned his 1,300th career victory when the Cardinal defeated top-ranked Arizona State 10-2 on Sunday.
Marquess, in his 32nd year at Stanford, moved into a tie for 13th place on the NCAA list for all divisions with Fresno State's Bob Bennett, who won 1,300 games in 34 years. Marquess and Bennett are tied for 10th among Division I coaches.
The 61-year-old Marquess is 1,300-654-5 and has led the Cardinal to the College World Series 13 times, including consecutive national titles in 1987-88.
Junior outfielder Joey August had three hits and drove in a run for the Cardinal (15-9, 4-2 Pac-10). Petey Paramore drove in both runs for the Sun Devils (28-3, 4-2), who lost their second straight.
